EthioWord
to HTML
You
can convert your Ethiopic EthioWord document to HTML format by just
saving the document as HTML. Open the document with DOC extension and
click on File and select SAVE AS HTM from the drop-down menu. The
document will be saved with htm extension and it is ready for your web
page.
You can also add Ethiopic hyperlinks, mailto, pictures, etc.
using Word.
The
newer versions of Microsoft Word, specially Word 97 and Word 2000
convert the EthioWord docs to EthioWord HTM by just saving the files
in HTML formats.
Microsoft
Word 6.0 and Word 7.0 require that you install Microsoft's WORDIA
programs. These are Word Internet Assistants or Wordia. These free programs can be downloaded from many sites,
particularly Microsoft.com.
We also have copies of
these programs for you to download from our Ethiopic.com site. Please
note that we have used these programs for years. (We have not tried
the Ethiopic version of GečzEdit in all Word versions, though there
is no reason why it should not work.)
WORD
6.0
Wordia.exe is the
HTML add-on program to Word 6.0. Follow the instructions below and the
Microsoft text:
This file is self-extracting, requires 1,121,560 bytes
Internet Assistant for Winword 6.x will turn Winword into
your own Web
Browser as long as you have a way of connecting to the
Internet. Even for those without Web access, Internet Assistant makes
it possible to create, view, and edit HTML (Hypertext Markup Language)
documents in Winword. Those using Word 7 should download WORDIA 2.0z
instead of this file. Those using newer versions of word already have
HTML capabilities built in. Select FILE from Word's top menu then SAVE
AS HTML to use.
This release of Internet Assistant, versions 6.0a or
later of Microsoft Word for Windows, works with the EthioWord version
of Ethiopic as shown in the gif below. You can verify which version of Word you have by
selecting About Microsoft Word from the Help menu. (If you have Word
6.0, you can upgrade to 6.0a by downloading the update patch for
WORD60A).
Internet Assistant is compatible with Microsoft TCP/IP
for Windows for
Workgroups 3.11. For current information on compatibility, check the page available at
http://www.microsoft.com/pages/deskapps/word/ia/support.htm.
It is recommended that you remove any previous
versions of Internet Assistant before installing this release.
To install Internet Assistant from the WORDIA.EXE file,
place the file WORDIA.EXE in a local temporary directory
on your hard drive (do not use the c:\{word} or c:\{word}\Internet
directory) and then expand the Setup files by running WORDIA.EXE from
the Windows File Manager. Once the files have decompressed, run
SETUP.EXE from the Windows File Manager. Setup will create the proper
directories and install the files for Internet Assistant. Once
installed, a "Browse Web" menu item will appear in your FILE
menu. You switch to "Edit" for Ethiopic typing. Complete help is available from the Help menu when any document
is opened based on the templates HTML.DOT or WEBVIEW.DOT.
You may have
to activate the HTML.DOT to convert a document. These DOTS are
compatible with our 1993 Ethiopic.dot and the new GečzEdit.dot. Any
one of our dots can be used with the HTML.DOT and the WEBVIEW.DOT
gives you a preview of what the Ethiopic and English page looks like
on the Web. The Ethiopic web view in Word is the same with those of
Microsoft Explorer and Netscape.
WORD 7.0
Wrdia20z.exe is
the HTML add-on to Word 7.0. Follow the instructions:
This (1,182,720 bytes) is a version of Internet
Assistant for Word 7.0 for Windows (Win95 version). It needs Windows
95, 98 or NT and Winword 7.0. Users of Word for Windows 6.x should
download the above WORDIA.EXE also available online. The two versions are NOT
interchangeable.
Internet Assistant for Winword 7.0 will turn Winword into
your own Web
Browser as long as you have a way of connecting to the
Net. Even for those without Web access, Internet Assistant makes it
possible to create,
view, and edit HTML documents in Winword.
This release of Internet Assistant works with the
EthioWord versions of Ethiopic.
It is recommended that you remove any previous
versions of Internet
Assistant before installing this release.
To install Internet Assistant from the WRDIA20Z.EXE file,
place the file WRDIA20Z.EXE in a local temporary
directory on your hard
drive. From Windows 95 Start menu select RUN then run
WRDIA20Z.EXE to
install. Unless you specify otherwise, the files will
install to C:\Program
files\Internet assistant. Once installed, a "Browse
Web" menu item will
appear in your FILE menu within Word. Complete help is available at
c:\program files\internet assistant\wordhtml.hlp or from
within Winword. You may have to activate the HTML.DOT to convert a
document. These DOTS are compatible with our 1993 Ethiopic.dot and
other dots and
both can be used at the same time.

Note: Though some of the above principles also do apply
to GečzEdit fake and half Ethiopic, for reasons described
elsewhere, we do not recommend such approaches.
