Ethiopic Sorting

Ethiopic word indices are usually sorted with the "Heleheme" or "Aebegede" order. Some Ethiopian scholars claim that the Ethiopic "He" ("H") to "Pe" ("P") order is related to that of the ancient Egyptian writing system of around 4000 BCE.   

The following list of Ethiopian plants is an example of my "Aebecede" (ABCD) Ethiopic sorting order in Amharic. It is based on the Ethiopic layout I created and standardized in the 80's. The standard follows the default sorting order of the computer alphabet characters, numerals and symbols of the English keyboard.

To sort a list, type it with EthioEdit and click on the Microsoft Word [Table...] and then [Sort...] and select the appropriate parameters. The Ethiopic follows the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) standards. Other features are self explanatory.

This method applies to all Ethiopic characters and other alphabets that share the maps. However, one should be careful of fake and incomplete characters some falsely claim as Ethiopic.

This approach is not recommended since it compromises the Ethiopic sorting order. It is presented for reference purpose only to show that an Ethiopic list can sort in the English order.
